Your stomach rumbles, your mouth is parched, hungry and thirsty you set off in search of refreshment
and nourishment. The body has a way of reminding us that we need feeding.
What about our souls? Have you ever heard your soul rumbling?
Why am I here?
What’s the point of life?
Does my life matter?
Am I simply a speck in the universe or am I someone special and significant?
Where do these questions originate from? Why do we have them? If there are questions does that mean there are answers?
When we’re hungry we know where to go to get food. What about spiritual hunger? What do we do with our
questions? Do we try to bury them in the hope that they will go away and never resurface? Do we ignore
them as irrelevant and just live for the moment? Or do we begin to search for the truth? Is there a truth?
I don’t know about you but I don’t want to die without knowing why I lived. Perhaps if there is a reason
for living then death may have some meaning. Maybe you are wondering whether I’m ever going to answer
this question or am I simply going to stack up more and more questions. Wouldn’t that be frustrating
to come to the last word and still not have found the answer? Wouldn’t it be a tragedy to come to the
end of our days and not know why we lived and why we were born at all?
Having stretched out the canvas of our existence, perhaps now would be a good time to paint and see what
the picture of life looks like. Using the analogy of a picture we all know that a painting didn’t paint
itself but was created by an artist. Even scribbles have scribblers! What about creation? Did the
world simply turn up one day or do you think that behind the cosmos is a creator who is so colossal
that our world is a masterpiece of a genius i.e. God? To believe that our world simply turned up
one day with all the right parts in the right order for it to work, or exploded upon the scene
and quickly sorted itself out so it wasn’t just a heap of rocks is hard to believe. If you believe
that’s what did happen then you’ve got more faith than I have!
So where does that leave us on that colorful canvas called earth? Well, the Creator saw you before you
were born. You were lovingly formed by a heavenly parent who calls you His child and wants you to call Him “Father”.
God, who created our universe, dotes on you! He delights in you. God made us to be in a relationship
with Him. A famous Christian, Saint Augustine once said this:
“O Lord, you have made us for yourself, and out heart is restless until it finds rest in you.”
You can rest assured that the meaning and purpose of life is found with the Maker of life. I’m not
talking about religion. I’m talking about having a relationship with God. As you begin to discover
who God is something wonderful happens. God begins to help you discover yourself. Think about
it. Who better than your creator to reveal to you how you’ve been “wired”. Through cultivating
an intimate relationship with God through His Word, Prayer and Worship, we discover life --- real
life. Jesus said that He came to give us life to the full. A fulfilled life is a life lived the
way you were “wired” to live it. It’s a life lived with God, empowered by God and preserved by
God. Through a right relationship with your creator, you put yourself in the position to discover
and embrace your full potential. In short, you discover your purpose.
Do you have a personal relationship with God? Would you like to be sure? For further
